Whether you like him or not Cliff Richard has stood the test of time and still has a very strong and loyal fan base. He is one of the most versatile and lasting figures in the British entertainment industry.

Cliff was born Harry Webb in Lucknow, India in 1940 and when he was eight years old, moved to England. His first hit was " Move It" in 1958 and "Living Doll" in 1959 was his first No 1.  The distinctive twanging sound of his backing group The Shadows (who later turned out to be great recording stars themselves) made Cliff a household name. His early Elvis influence changed and he became a very proficient family entertainer. He made successful films such as
The Young Ones (1961) and Summer Holiday (1962). Summer Holiday was also a very successful stage musical.

In 1968 he sang the British entry to the Eurovision Song Contest,  '
Congratulations'  which finished in second place.

Through the years Cliff was able to change and refresh his music to reach and win over a new generation of listeners, so much so, that more than 40 years later in November/December 1999, he proudly topped the British charts for the 14th time with his recording of the 'Millennium Prayer'.
