Larne v Derriaghy - 3rd May 2004 |
|
Larne Cricket Club 1st XI, who are sponsored by the Curran Court, entertained Derriaghy on Bank Holiday Monday and continued their unbeaten start to the season when they won by 8 wickets. Derriaghy scored 190 for 8 in their 50 overs with the main run scorers G. Stevenson who hit 58 not out in the 50 overs and A. Kenny who scored 34. Jonathan Craig was once again Larne’s top bowler when he picked up 4 for 34. Gareth Gaw bowled an immaculate ten over spell that only conceded 15 runs and he picked up one wicket. Keith Aiston was Larne’s other wicket taker as he took two wickets for 24 runs. In reply Leitch and Aiston got the Larne innings off to a brisk start as they stroked 36 runs in 11 overs before Aiston was narrowly run out for 8 when the ball just managed to shave the wicket at the bowlers end.. The onslaught on the Derriaghy bowlers continued when Douglas Griebenouw joined Leitch before Leitch fell four runs short of a deserved 50 when he was caught at mid wicket off the bowling of F. van der Burgh. This was the last wicket to fall as a highly entertaining partnership of 115 between Griebenouw and Greg Hill took Larne home with over 7 overs to spare. Griebenouw looked a class act as he compiled his first fifty for Larne and he would go on to finish 85 not out. Hill’s contribution to the partnership must not be overlooked and after he had settled in at one stage he was outscoring the South African professional. Hill finished not out on 38 runs and Larne had won by 8 wickets. Match Summary:- |
