Larne v Ballymena - Saturday 29th May 2004 |
|
The local derby held at the Grammar School on Saturday, went the way of the visitors who won by 6 wickets. Chasing Larne's total of 164-7 in 40 overs, Ballymena passed this with four overs to spare, with former Larne player and Ballymena Captain, Andrew Lyttle top scoring with 56, before he was bowled by left arm spinner Michael Walker who collected two wickets. The other two victims where in the opening spell by 15 year old Darren King, who claimed both openers caught behind. The second being an excellent slip catch, by Craig Smith. Once again the Larne catching let them down badly and young off spinner Stephen Church was most aggrieved, since he bowled very well and had four catches dropped off his bowling. Fourteen year old Andrew King also impressed with the ball. Earlier in the day, Larne were put into bat and were in all sorts of bother at 27-4. Two of the senior players Esler Burke and David Swan resurrected the situation with 34 and 28 respectively and this allowed the platform for Jamie Hagan (playing his first game for three years) with 30 and Michael Waterman with 22no to plunder 52 off the final five overs of the Larne innings.
