Player Profile for Chris Erdis

Name:
Chris Erdis
Age: 28
Nickname: Erdy/Wide-Boy
Batsman/Bowler/All-rounder: Military Medium Classical Swing Bowler
Other teams played for: Aye right
Debut (Date and Opposition):

LCC Debut - 1990 (?) against somebody 3rds (some boy was bowling for us wearing Suede boots).

1st XI - CIYMS in Section 3 in 1992 (I think – statto might correct this). J ‘The Destroyer' Adams skittled us.
Highest Score: 60 odd vs CI 2s
Best Bowling: 6-25 vs Bangor 2s
Favourite Opposition: Armagh (free beer afterwards & nice bunch of lads)
Least Favourite Opposition: Dunmurry/Cregagh (lots of ganching)
Favourite Ground(s): Civil Service (but not the teas – tuna boat material)
Least Favourite Ground(s): Mallusk
Career Highlight: Either winning Sec 4 with the 1sts or one of the leagues with the 2s
Career Low Point: Losing Intermediate cup final vs Carrick IIs or else bowling about 30 wides in an over against Shorts for a team containing Paddy, Gorman and Craigy !!
Best Player you played with: Difficult one, obviously can't say J.Craig. Peter Reeves was good to watch. Think I missed the McKinty golden years. Derek McKinley was another cracker when he got going.
Best Player you played against: There have probably been more talented players, but one who sticks out is David Napier when he played for Saintfield. Cover drive for four first ball he faced, cue Larne heads going down…
How did you first get interested in cricket? Got picked for the school team against my will. Captain G Alexander made me open the batting on an artificial mat on a gravel hockey pitch against Ballyclare HS. Ross Aitken was umpiring and was none too impressed that neither opener knew what taking a guard was !
Who have been the major influences on your career to date? Usual suspects for LCC – Michael Waterhole, WJW McKinty, J Craig
Favourite Food: Some sort of curry
Favourite Drink: Not fussed
What was the most memorable match you have played in?

LCC 2s vs Dunmurry 2s. Geoff Hunter proclaimed it wasn't worth leaving the wife and kids to play in this rubbish, only to be dancing with joy later on when Ainsley produced one of his remarkable innings.

What was the funniest thing you have seen in a cricket match?

Too many to mention. One I remember is Jinx getting hit for a massive six at Donaghadee. We only had one backup ball with us, which was like a baked spud. Jinx said to me at mid off ‘Lets see him hit this thing for six'. He bowled his next one and the boy hit it right out of the ground into a garden. Of course the whole team then rolls about with laughter….

What ambitions have you in cricket? To play the odd game when the wife allows me
What do you think of the current Larne side? Probably the best ever, although I think the team that won Section four under the Sheik's captaincy and then broke up would give them a good game.
Name your all time Larne XI:

I've gone for an all time comedy XI rather than another arse kissing for the usual suspects. This team might not have won many leagues, but can you imagine the craic in the field…
