News (Cup latest) - 8th May 2003 :-
The Firsts defeated Holywood in the First Round of the Newry and Mourne Democrat Challenge Cup. The match finished on Wednesday night when Holywood were bowled out for 94. There was something of a farce to the ending as Holywood were only able to turn up with 7 men. Larne also had problems as they only had 6 of the original players available and had to field 5 substitute fielders. Steven Gorman had to bowl at one stage and he did not disappoint as he took 3 wickets for 24 runs. The other principal wicket taker was Paul Ramsay who finished with 2-20. This result means Larne travel to Deramore in the Second Round to play Senior league team Belfast Harlequins.
7th May 2003 :-
Rain over the weekend and on the Monday Bank Holiday severely curtailed the busy fixture program for all teams at Larne.
The 1st XI playing Holywood in the Senior Cup on Saturday managed only 25 overs and were reduced to 66-4. On the resumption on Tuesday evening, with once again rain threatening at any moment they managed to reach 173 all out in their 50 overs. Jonathan Craig hit an aggressive 37, Graeme Leitch 32, Robert McClean 20 and Gareth Gaw scored 10. Holywood got their innings started but after 3 overs and with the score on 12-0, bad light and then heavier rain caused the umpires to suspend play for the evening. The match resumes this evening (Wednesday) and there will be an update tomorrow.
In between all this, the 1sts also started a league match against Derriaghy on Monday but with Derriaghy having reached 166 for 5 in the 43rd over, the rain became more persistent and the match was abandoned and will be replayed at a later date.
Other match news:- On Saturday the thirds traveled to Campbell College to play Belfast Harlequins but, despite the toss taking place , no play was possible due to persistent rain. On Monday the thirds did get a match played to a finish when they defeated Downpatrick by 3 wickets in the rain and gloom at Larne Grammar School. BH hit 157 all out with Eddie Hunter taking 3 for 12 and Johnny Baxter also picking up 3 wickets. In reply Larne chased the total down with 3 overs to spare. Neill Hodge hit 45, Wylie McKinty 18, J. Higginson 18, J. King 20no. Scorecard here.
On Sunday the 4ths match at Instonians V's was called off due to the weather.
29th April 2003 :-

Happily the seconds played Dunmurry seconds at Sandy Bay and came away with a comfortable 67 runs victory. Read the match report here.

23rd July 2002 :-
The big news is that Larne has hosted the ECB England v Scotland European Cricket Championship match. After the washout of the planned Austria v Israel match on Friday 19th July, the club was asked to host the ECB England v Scotland match instead on Saturday 20th July as the Greenisland ground scheduled to host the game was waterlogged. Given less than 24 hours notice to make all the arrangements, it was all hands to the pumps and thanks to the efforts of everyone involved, the match started on time and produced one of the most remarkable results you will ever see at Sandy Bay. Scotland, chasing 174 for victory, lost their last 6 wickets for 1 run in 1.5 overs!! A report on the preparations for this match and a report on the match can be found here.
