History
Before the development of a fire service in Lisburn fire cover was provided by the AFS in world war one. The town council then took on the responsibility of fire cover in 1935.
In 1939 the council employees then became the first official fire crew based at the war station in Clonavon Park and took delivery of their first purpose built Dennis light four pump escape pictured here. This is the original appliance which served in the "Lisburn Fire Brigade" It is interesting to note that the appliance was purchased as a pump initially as the council could not afford the escape ladder at the time. She was converted a few months later to what you can see below.

Then in 1950 the first Dennis F12 "Ulster" pump was commissioned for the then Northern Ireland Fire Authority. This appliance was purpose built for Northern Ireland being short and thin to cope with the infrastructure at the time in narrow streets and rural country roads.
Note the pump deliveries on the side to facilitate the escape ladder.
