Stephen Dyer "Dyso" (Captain 2000)
(Vice Captain 1999)
Stephen has been with North since
1990 however, due to being at university and work commitments he has
perhaps not played as much senior cricket as he or the club might
have wanted. An opening batsman who normally tries to hold the innings
together while the stoke makers play their shots. Stephen has been
elected as club captain for the 2000 season, something which he is
relishing. Like 'Max', another one who is frequently found at the
bar talking very little sense about most things. |
 |
Jim Patterson "Zulu"
(Vice Captain
2000)
Jim has been with north for the
past two seasons and within that short period of time his contribution
to the club has been immense. He was by far the most prolific run
scorer the club during the 1999 season. Jim is one of the most liked
and well known cricketers throughout Ireland, as well as being one
of the most feared left handed batsmen. A mere forty Irish caps does
not justify his talent. Next year Jim dons the mantle of vice captain
for the firsts. His knowledge and experience will be invaluable. |
 |
Peter Reid "Speed"
Peter is a genuine all rounder and
was the leading wicket taker in seasons 1997 and 98. With the bat
Peter has been explosive on numerous occasions. He has the skill and
all round ability to turn matches on his own. Peter is also the soul
of the first team with a very 'individual' sense of humour which tends
to board on the side of madness. Frequently found running around the
club plotting with his 'friend and confidant', Mutt. |
|
Johnno Bouyens
Johnno joined the club at the beginning
of 1999 having arrived from South Africa to work in Northern Ireland.
A deceptively talented off spinner who picked up bowler of the year
in 1999, something which surprised him as he considered himself a
top order batsman who bowled a bit. He showed however, on a number
of occasions why he played in such a high standard in South Africa.
His innings in the senior cup final typifying his immense batting
talent. Some one who should be avoided in the bar if you want to see
the next morning with a clear head ! |
|
Mark Marais "Zim"
Mark who believes that he has semi
retired from senior cricket has been with the club for a number of
years now having settled from Zimbabwe in Ireland. A medium left arm
bowler who is probably one of the most economical in the club. He
believes he is a number nine batsman and would argue that he rarely
gets the chance. A very popular person throughout the club who works
tirelessly behind the scenes organising social functions and drinking
sessions with absolutely any one who will listen. |
|
Paul Jackson "Jacko"
Paul has been playing cricket for
as long as most people can remember. Paul is probably the most talented
wicket keeper / batsman that North and Ireland have produced. He is
the most capped Irish wicket keeper of all time. Does not don the
gloves now but is heard and seen at backward point. Has threatened
to retire on numerous occasions but as yet all appear to be veiled
threats. The most punctual and well turned out member of the squad.
Is also believed to be a closet Bruce Springstein fan but all attempts
to hear him have proven futile.
|
|
David Johnston "Doc or Badger"
David is a contemporary of Jacko
having schooled together and played most of their cricket together.
David is a very slow left arm occasional spin bowler who manages to
get wickets with the unlikeliest deliveries. David has also threatened
to retire from senior cricket but this seems unlikely to happen if
red wine is readily available. Like most of the senior squad David
is a very social and committed member of the club also playing rugby
in the closed season. David's batting however is sometimes forgotten.
He is a more than useful lower/middle order batsman. |
 |
David Finlay "Mutt"
David is a product of North having
played here from the age of 13 years old. He has been playing first
eleven cricket for three years now and he grows with stature each
year, culminating with his man of the match award in the senior cup
final in 1999. David is another all rounder and is a match winner
with either bat or ball, very much like his sporting idol Peter 'Speed'
Reid. David has represented Ulster and Ireland at schools level at
both cricket and rugby and is now a student at Newcastle university.
|
|
Chris Corlett "Dark Horse"
Chris like David is another product
of North's youth policy and is a great prospect for the future. Chris
is a middle order bat and medium paced bowler. Chris broke into the
first eleven during 1999 and hopefully will develop and strengthen
his position in 2000. Chris is a second year student at Durham university
where he also plays hockey. Chris had a major role to play in the
winning of the cup final enjoying a spectacular run out. His performance
in the after match celebrations were also in that same mode. |
 |
David Haire
David has been with north for two
seasons having joined with Jim Patterson in 1998. David is the 1st
team wicket keeper and a lower order batsman. He has filled the somewhat
large hole left by Jacko when he hung up the gloves. Another great
'time keeper' but as he has to travel from Lurgan to play in Belfast
he often uses this as his excuse! |
 |
Chris Fuller
Chris
who is still at school played on a number of occasions for the first
eleven and was 12th man in the cup final. He like the other youngsters
developed during the year scoring his first senior 50 while only being
17. Chris played for Ulster and Irish schools in 1999 and should maintain
this in the 2000 season. He is an opening bat who also bowls leg spin.
Like Chris Corlett he also enjoyed post cup final celebrations, perhaps
a little too much, you know what I mean Chris!
