SUMMARY - 2000: (SEASON DETAILS available) It was a mixed season for the seconds with a very poor start but an extremely strong second half. They were knocked out of the Junior cup in the first round by Civil Service and out of the first 9 league games had recorded only 3 wins. A lot of the poor performances can be put down to the constant unavailability of players which meant there was never the same side going out week after week. In the second half of the season there was a much more settled side and this was reflected in the results with 7 wins out of the last 8 league matches. The final league result was 17 games played out of a possible 18, 10 wins and 7 defeats. This left the seconds finishing in joint 3rd position with Cliftonville, Warinsgtown in second position and Instonians the champions. The Captain, Trevor Dalzell, would like to thank all who have contributed to a tough season that that nearly brought success. The stalwarts in particular for their much needed support; Philip Black, Ricky Finlay, Nigel Canning, Gary Wilson, Andy McAskie and Philip Wilson. Also in the latter half of the season; Jason Patton, Richard Clements, Robbie Turtle, Ian Hamilton and Michael Granlees. There were some individual highlights during the season. On the batting front T.Dalzell had a very good season topping the averages with 482 runs (scored 5 fifties which included 4 out of five outings); R.Finlay 238 runs with a high of 81 runs at Woodvale; G.Wilson 154 runs with 48 scored against Muckamore opening the innings; P.Wilson 143 runs which included a very important match winning 60 runs against Instonians at Ormeau and Guy Featherston who was notable for his 72 runs scored at Cliftonville in a Sunday match. Others who contributed were A.McAskie, J.Hool, M.Kerr and I.Hamilton. Of the bowling the main mentions go to P.Black with 16 wickets and a very economical spell at Woodvale (10 overs, 8 maidens, 2 wickets for 5 runs; only 1 run - a no ball - off the first 9 overs !); T.Dalzell who took the most wickets (25) although not at the most economical rate; R.Finlay with 12 wickets including that very excellent spell against Woodvale where he took 3 in the last over and N.Black with 12 wickets (his best spell being against Instonians at Shaw’s Bridge with 3 wickets for 14 runs in 6 overs). Let's now build on this for next season and produce some silverware again in the second’s trophy cabinet ! If there is more consistent player availability then I’m sure we can achieve this. Wouldn’t this be nice to coincide with our last year at Ormeau ? A more detailed 'blow-by-blow' account of the season is available @ Season Details Fixtures / Results:
