Player Profiles
Trevor Dalzell
'Dazzler' (Capt 2001
season)
Bat - Middle order; Bowl - Opening / 1st Change
Trevor
enters his second season as Captain of the 2nd XI with a great amount
of relish for the task in hand. A 'Nor Wester' who has been with the club
since 1994. He really came to the fore in 2000 with his batting scoring
the most runs (482) and picking up the most wickets - 25 - (although slightly
expensive !) He was the seconds player of the year for 2000. Known within
the club to have a "soft hands" forward defensive which he plays
with great aplomb ! Often heard quoting batting tips to fellow team mates
such as give her a big slap (hit a 6) or a wee slap will do (hit a 4).
Usually a safe pair of hands in the field. He is also a qualified coach
to youth level.
Richard Finlay (Vice
Captain 2001)
Bat - Opening; Bowl - Nets Wicket
keeper (P/Time)
Ricky
is also entering his second year in office although in 2000 he spent quite
a bit of time on the 1st XI in the early part of the season. He follows
in the Finlay tradition of batting. He is capable of scoring 500 - 600
runs per season but unfortunately has had a bad couple of seasons by his
standards. He won the MOM award for his magnificent 80 in the Junior Cup
final of 1996. His highest score in the 2000 season was 81 runs n.o. co-incidentally
at the same venue as his 80 in the junior cup of 1996; Woodvale. Has bowled
on a number of occasions for the seconds in 2000 including a vital spell
against Woodvale to win the match. An occasional and very willing wicket
keeper when required. A good socialiser who can be found at North all
year round.
Philip Black 'Decker'
Bat - Late order; Bowl - Opening / 1st change
A name synonymous with North seconds.
Decker has been one of the more consistent performers over the years and
the 2000 season was no different.
His
best spell of the season at Woodvale yielded
after 9 overs the unbelievable figures of
9 overs, 8 maidens, 2 wickets for 1 run. The single run was a No Ball
!! A four was hit in the last over top leave him with 2 for 5.
The tag 'mister economy' seems
to fit; a typical accountant ! As a batter few will deny he has his own
style; he would say that he rarely gets the chance to show it although
he did threaten at Instonians during the season. Philip is a tireless
worker within the club and looks after Boys cricket, amongst other things.
He is also a qualified coach to youth level and assists with coaching
in the club.
Neil McCaul
Bat - Lower/Middle order; Wicketkeeper
Neil
has been with the club since 1995. He has become the main wicketkeeper
for the seconds and on occasions has been selected as the first team keeper.
He is a very enthusiastic keeper who is never afraid to enquire about
a dismissal ! A talented left hand bat who when settled on his game can
produce a superb innings in the tightest of situations. He had an excellent
knock of 138 for the seconds against Downpatrick in the 1999 season.
Thanks
to Trevor Dalzell for this analysis of the
2nd team squad. Some of you I'm sure can relate to the 'odd' comment !
