Feb 2000 - Jun 2000 Two weekends' results as 1st XI continue to win Thursday, 15th June 2000 The 1st XI continue on their winning ways with victories 4 and 5. This now makes it 5 wins from 5 matches with them dropping only 4 points in the process. The last 3 matches have seen them collect maximum points. Queen's batted first in the 3rd June match but could only manage a meagre 62 runs all out. David 'Doc' Johnston was the pick of North's bolwers taking 4 wickets for 19 runs. North reached the target of 63 runs to win losing only 1 wicket which went down with the score on 59. Peter 'Speed' Reid topped the battting with a fine knock of 44. A good victory. Last weekend the 1st XI had a similar easy victory entertaining Carrickfergus at home. Carrick batted first posting a low total of 74 runs all out. North reached the target losing 3 wickets. Well done to Stephen and the boys. Keep up the work and good luck this weekend with the 'double header' on Saturday and Sunday. The 2nd XI recorded a very good league win against Muckamore played at Moylena. Put in to bat North posted a good total of 198 runs. The main contributions to this were Gary Wilson (48) who opened and the Captain, Trevor Dalzell (61) who batted at number 3. In reply Muckamore scored 182. They could have been closer to a win but fine bowling and fielding performances by North helped restrict their final total. The main bowling for North was Mark Kerr who took 3 wickets from his 10 overs at a modest 14 runs. Overall this was a fine victory for the 2nd XI with a good team effort all round. Some photos from the 2nd XI match against Waringstown @ the start of the season have been added. Check out the photos in the 2nd Team section. The 3rd XI were beaten in their Cup match against Laurelvale on June 3rd. Batting first Laurelvale posted an excellent total of 235 for 7 in the 50 overs. The pick of North's bowlers was Robert Hamilton who took 3 wickets. North in reply could only manage 113 all out with the main contribution coming from David Dickson (49). The League match on the 10th June was abandoned due to the weather. The 4th XI recorded a fantastic win in the Cup against Instonians. North batted first posting a massive total of 298 runs. The main contribution came from one Philip 'Shadow' Wilson with 138 runs ! In reply Instonians could only manage 46 runs all out. The main bowling contribution was made by Ben Price with 5 wickets for 10 runs in 5 overs. The 4th XI are in action again in the Cup this weekend. Good luck boys ! Check out the Scoreboard for the details. 1st XI record third league victory away @ Laurelvale Tuesday, 30th May 2000 Only one game was completed by North at the weekend; the 1st XI away at Laurelvale on Sunday in their third league match of the season. Laurelvale posted a low score thanks mainly to a very poor start which saw them at 10 overs with only 10 runs on the board and 4 wickets down. From here they regained a bit in the middle order but never looked liked posting a big score due to the earlier damage. The pick of the bowlers were Peter Reid with 4 for 12 and Daryl Anderson with 3 for 18. In reply North also found themselves starting poorly; 10 runs for the first 3 wickets. After this the ship was steadied with some fine batting in particular by Neil McCall (47) who took charge of the situation. He finished the match with a well struck straight six. He was also supported by Chris Fuller (26) and Daryl Anderson (17). There was no 2nd XI or 4th XI matches. The 3rd XI match @ Ormeau on Saturday was abandonned part way through due to rain. Mixed weekend of results for North Monday, 22nd May 2000 The 1st XI had an excellent win over Cooke Collegians on Sunday. Batting first North set Cooke Collegians a target of 210 to win. The main batting contributions were made by Stephen Dyer (80) and Luke Freidlieb (58 - his 2nd 50 of the year). Cooke Colllegians replied with 128 in the allotted 50 overs. Stehpen Dyer played a Captain's role in the field as well being the main wicket taker with a 5 wicket haul. Well done Stephen ! The 2nd XI exit the Junior Cup in the 2nd Round. Civil Service batted first. North had a good game in the field restricting Civil Service to 176 - 8 in the 50 overs. Mark Kerr and Mike Featherstone were the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets each. In reply North fell short by 39 runs. Credit in this game must go to a young M. Featherstone who scored 23 runs. Quite a weekend for him as he took 3 wickets for the 3rd XI on Saturday. Thanks must go to Philip Black for captaining the side for this match. The 3rd XI were well beaten by Instonians on Saturday. North scored 112 batting first with the main contributions coming from I.Heron (30) and P. Wilson 27. Instonians lost 4 wickets to reach the winning target of 113 runs. The most successful of the North bowlers was Mike Featherstone with 3 of the 4 wickets. Keep up the good work Mike ! 1st XI and 3rd XI win Saturday, 13th May 2000 A good weekend's cricket for North. The 1st XI won their first league game of the season reasonably comfortably at home to Derriaghy. Some good batting from S. Dyer, J. Patterson and D. Anderson helped them post a healthy score of 198. Derriaghy rallied towards the end of their innings with the tailenders determind to up the run rate. They fell short by 41 runs, posting a final total of 157 all out. The 3rd XI captained by I. Heron had a fine win in the first round of the Minor Cup. They were set a target of 214 to win and achieved this losing only 2 wickets. The mainstay of their innings was a Mr P. Wilson, who scored 106 not out. Well done Philip. (I think most who were in the bar at North on Saturday evening may have been aware of Philip's afternoon activities!) 1st XI and 2nd XI beaten at the weekend. Saturday, 6th May 2000 Not a good weekend for North as both the 1st XI and 2nd XI are beaten. The 1st XI were defeated in the first round of the Senior Cup by Muckamore. This means there will be no more matches for the 1st XI against Section 1 teams this season but it will allow the firsts to concentrate on their main objective for the season; to gain promotion back into Section 1 for next year. The 2nd XI lost to Waringstown in a close finish to their opening match of the league campaign. Although the result was disappointing there were some fine individual performances which does give promise for the coming weeks. Check the Scoreboard for further details. No play on opening day of New Season ! Saturday, 29th April 2000 Unfortunately due to the terrible weather conditions experienced this week, none of North's teams have been able to play in the opening day of the new season. Both the 1st XI and 2nd XI were scheduled to play their opening league matches. The 1st XI were at home to Cooke Collegians; a match no doubt that would have proved interesting ! The 2nd XI were away to Lurgan. Both these matches will now be re-arranged in the near future. Watch the fixture lists for news of these dates. Here's to getting the season of to a winning start on Bank Holiday Monday when the 1st XI and the 3rd XI are in action. The 1st XI are away to Laurelvale and the 3rd XI are away to Lurgan. Both are League matches. New look Web Site launched ! Wednesday, 19th April 2000 I just have to keep 'tinkering' with the look and structure of our web site. This I hope will prove to be much easier to navigate around. I feel that this look and functionality will suffice for the coming months seeing as there will be more than enough to do over the season in reporting and updating results. There are still some sections in the site which have not received this 'new look' yet. These will be completed over the next week or so. As usual comments / feedback would be very much appreciated. Summer 2000 Season fixture books now out ! Monday, 17th April 2000 The Fixture Books for the summer 2000 season have now been published and distributed. A special word of congratulations to Ian Heron and his committee who worked very diligently to achieve this. I'm sure most will agree it is an excellent quality publication.
