A busy Season for 2001 !

Tuesday, 12th December 2000.

It is going to be a busy season for the club in 2001 . We are again, after last years' enormous success, hosting the NCU Senior Cup Final @ Ormeau. This will be a special occasion as it is the last opportunity for the Final to be staged here. (Last year's Cup Final Report by Wilfie Hanna)

Also in August we are playing host to another high profile match when the visiting Australians play Ireland @ Ormeau. A match we are all eagerly looking forward to.

With the 1st XI back in the top grade, the Senior Cup final, the Australians and our last year at Ormeau - what a mouth-watering season lies ahead. I can't wait !!

End of Season Round up !

Tuesday, 26th September 2000.

The 1st XI have had a very good season and can be extremely proud of their achievement in regaining section one status. From around mid season most people observing the situation would have backed them to win it but they did so in style. Congratulations on behalf everyone else in the club to Stephen Dyer and the rest of the boys on a job well done ! We will have all the results for the season plus the players stats available soon.

The 2nd XI have had a good set of results to finish the season very strongly after their poor start to the season. The consistent availability of players has greatly influenced this situation which is in stark contrast to the first half of the season. After 9 leagues games the 2nd XI had won 3 and lost 6. They were also beaten in the first round of the cup by Civil Service. In the last 8 games they won 7 and lost 1. This left the final league record standing at 17 games played out of 18 (Lurgan match away not played due to weather conditions) with 10 wins and 7 lost. Among the wins was a very convincing all round team victory against a strong Cliftonville side in a Sunday match @ Ormeau. Our final league position was 3rd equal with Cliftonville. Warinstown were 2nd with Instonians winning the title. Satisfaction can be taken from the fact that they beat the league winners twice this season. More match details and the players stats to appear shortly.

Details on the 3rd XI season will be posted shortly including player stats.

The 4th XI have had a very mixed season. They have strugled badly in the league but have triumphed in the Cup beating Armagh 4th XI in the final @ New Forge on August 19th. Congratulations to Rich Irvine and the team on their success. More details on the season will be posted soon plus a Cup Final report and also the player stats.

The 1st XI keep on Winning !

Tuesday , 18th July 2000

The 1st XI bandwagon just keeps on rolling. They have now started into the second half of their league campaign and are still unbeaten. Out of the maximum 300 points available for 10 matches, the 1st XI have secured 298 points.

Their latest victory came at the weekend when they played hosts to Laurelvale. Winning the toss, Stephen decided to insert the visitors. They posted a reasonable total of 174 runs but it always looked getable on what was a very fine batting strip (well done Henry !). If this weather keeps up then I'm pretty sure the ground and the wicket will do the Senior Cup final a lot of justice. Don't forget the dates; 3rd & 4th of August @ Ormeau. The main bowling contributions were L.Friedlieb 4 for 40, T. Dalzell 2 for 26 and N. Canning 2 for 33. In reply North never really looked liked struggling with a measured innings. They reached the target in 45 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. The main batting was L. Friedlieb (37), J.Patterson (67 no) and D. Anderson (57 no). Keep up the good work fellas ! The 1st XI are AWAY to Derriaghey on Saturday. Some of their other recent results can be found on the 'Scoreboard'

The 2nd XI lost a close match to Waringstown at Ormeau on Saturday. Winning the toss North decided to make first use of the track and posted a healthy 194. This however was probably about 30 - 40 runs shy if what they should have scored. North had scored 108 runs in the first 23 overs but failed to maintain this momentum due to some tight bowing from Waringstown and Colin Gregson in particular. The main batting contribution for North was Trevor Dalzell (69).

In reply Waringstown reached the winning target in 45 overs of what was very much a rain affected innings. Credit must go to all the North fielders and bowlers who despite the conditions fought all the way to make it a match right up to the end. In particular D.Heaney was the pick of the bowling for North with figures of 10-1-21-1. These are even more significant when you consider that he was bowling with the proverbial 'Imperial Leather!'

The 2nd XI's other recent matches are also listed below including their magnificent win over Instonians at Ormeau on the previous Sunday (2nd July 2000). Instonians batted first and posted a fine total of 213 for 8 in the 50 overs, although it could have been more. North in reply had a very solid start with M. Patterson (26), A. Pannell (44) and T. Dalzell (35) but the main contribution came from P.Wilson (60). North achieved the winning target with 4 balls to spare and 5 wickets in hand; I. Hamilton stroking the winning runs.

The 4th XI recorded a good win in the semi-finals of the Minor Qualifying Cup. They were playing Larne down at Larne on Saturday past. North Batted first and posted a very healthy total of 285 for 9 wickets in the 50 overs. The main batting was P. Wilson (30), R.Wallace (83), S. Wallace (22), B. Gillespie (27) and J. Cartmill (29 no).

Larne made a good effort at chasing the target but fell short at 224 all out. G. Knox was their main contributor recording 109 runs. The main bowling for North was R. Irvine (Capt) 5 for 48, D. Heaney 2 for 31 and G. Erskine 2 for 50. Good luck in the final boys ! Don't forget the date for this one; August 19th @ Newforge. Everyone's support is welcomed !
