North play host to Deloitte & Touche Senior Cup.

Thursday/Friday, 3rd & 4th August 2000.

Another NCU Senior Challenge Cup Final has passed into the record books and history accompanied by the inevitable elation and disappointment of the two clubs involved. Apart from the obvious ones this years final was special in that it linked the old Millennium and the new. Also in that Woodvale appeared in both the 1999 and the 2000 matches while North won the final in 1999 and hosted the occasion this year.

Action during the second day

North members were delighted to once again see Ormeau ringed with spectators for this great event. For many it was like 'old times', reviving memories of past contests, to have this magnificent trophy competed for at Ormeau, or, as the News Letter put it, 'H.Q.' After heavy rain on the days leading up to the match the weather relented, play took place on both days uniterupted and ultimately North Down were comfortable winners. Congratulations to them on winning the 2000 Deloitte & Touche Senior Challenge Cup.

Roy Harrison presents the Trophy to the winning captain of North Down

As always North members - young and not so young - assisted in various ways with the pre-match preparations and during the two days of the contest. We thank them for their efforts. Henry Harrison ensured the ground looked in first class order and the wicket exceeded even his high standards. Well done Henry !

Wilfie Hanna

Thanks to Wilfie Hanna for the above report on the Senior Cup and events surounding it. Special thanks also to Deloitte & Touche for providing the above pictures and also to the photographer, Norman Evans of Harrison Photography.

The Cricket Committee of North of Ireland would also like to pass on to Wilfie Hanna, Brian Fitzgerald and John Law their sincere thanks and appreciation on behalf of the club for the immense amount of time and effort put in by the trio in organising what was a very successful event.
