"Music is very important to me. The recorder was my first instrument which I started to play when I was six years old. I learnt my first tunes with a little help from my Dad. Playing the recorder was quite easy and lots of fun but it really helped me later when I started to play the violin and cornet. I have my violin lessons with Mrs McMillan, who visits my school and comes from the South Eastern Music Centre. My school music teacher, Mrs Smyth, works very hard to give everyone a chance to learn and make music. I really enjoy taking part in the school orchestra, choir, recorder group and class music. At home my Dad teaches me the cornet and sometimes listens to my practice. After doing well in my grade one cornet exam, I was able to join the Salvation Army Young Peoples' Band. Music is a big part of my life and I have to practise every day. But I think it's worth it, as I have made many friends and go special places with my music." |
