NINETEENTH
AND TWENTIETH CENTURIES
In
1839 when the first Ordance Survey was carried out
The White House had fallen into some disrepair and
become a barn and stable. They did establish
however that it had remained an important building
until 1770 and went on to describe its current
state.

THE ORDNANCE SURVEY REPORT
Around
1923 it was donated by a Mr McLaughlin to be used
as a Gospel Hall. It was to continue to serve in
this way until 1997 when the congregation was able
to build a new church just across the road.
It
was at this point that it was purchased on behalf
of Abbey Historical Society by Ulster Garden
Villages. An archaeological survey was carried out
which revealed the original paved floor which is
well below the present ground level.
Plans
were drawn up for the restoration of the building
to its original height. When complete the ground
floor will become a museum area and the new upper
floor will be a meeting place for the historical
society. The full history of the area is told
